Fun for the day

My mom emailed these jokes to me. I thought they were funny and if you don't....well then get yourself a sense of humor!!! :)

My five-year old students are learning to read.
Yesterday one of them pointed at a picture in a zoo book and said,'Look at this! It's a frickin' elephant!'I took a deep breath, then asked...'What did you call it?'It's a frickin' elephant! It says so on the picture!'
And so it does...

African Elephant

Hooked on phonics! Ain't it wonderful?

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married. One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the other the groom broom. The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely. After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and said to the groom-broom, 'I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!' 'IMPOSSIBLE !' said the groom broom.

'WE HAVEN'T EVEN SWEPT TOGETHER!'

(Sounds to me like she's ....... ! ......been ....sweeping around!!!

New Friend

Okay, so I figured I ought to blog about this or I'd be hearing it from some of you when you eventually heard about it. So Saturday I made a new friend. His name is Derek. We went out Saturday night...dinner & the ever so scary corn maze! Ok, so we were dying laughing thru the whole maze, but it was fun. We hung out a little on Sunday night & chatted up a storm. I am always amazed at what people did when they were kids. I would never thought of doing half the stuff others think up. Either that shows lack of imagination or a fear of getting into trouble.

I'm sure I would get comments for more details if I don't just put them in now. He's 36, has 2 kids and has lived in the St. George area for a while. This is good for me because he'll probably know some fun stuff to do around here. We both played soccer in high school, snow ski (though I haven't been in ages) and other stuff we have in common. I don't know what else to put here, so if you have the need to know more you can ask.

Just Call Me Catherine

You are Catherine Morland of Northanger Abbey! You love a good Gothic romance - so much, in fact, that you'll fool yourself into thinking you're living one! You are imaginative and naive, which is at once endearing and perplexing. Perhaps your heart is TOO pure...but it is adventurous. After all, you love a trip to Bath or a stay at an ancient Abbey.
Thanks Monica for posting yours. It was fun, though I'm not sure who this character is. I'll have to do a little digging as I don't remember her....hope that's not something we have in common....forgettability (is that even a word?) I do however find that it is eerily close to describing me. Is it sad to admit that if I ever get married I want my wedding dress to be from this era? If it is I am sad indeed! haha Even funnier is that the patterns are under Halloween costumes! You gotta love it!

A True Hero

I got this email today:
There recently was the death of a 98-year-old lady named Irena Sendler.During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive...She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German).Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she also carried in the back of her truck a Burlap sack, (for larger kids). She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.During her time and course of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs and arms and beat her severely.Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it, and reunited the family. Most, of course, had been gassed. Those kids she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted.Last year Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize....She LOST.Al Gore won for doing a slide show on Global Warming. Absolutely true.

There was a link for snopes.com so I decided to check it out. The story is somewhat the same there, but there are a few differences. (http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/sendler.asp) While there isn't a way to confirm if she was nominated, I certainly think she should have been & won! What kind of world do we live in where a HERO like Irena Sendler is passed over for some idiot who probably just lends his name & face to the cause of informing us all about global warming. While that is a noble cause, he hasn't necessarily saved any lives and Irena Sendler is said to have saved at least 3,000 adults, children & infants. I know her reward will be HUGE in Heaven, but I think she should definitely get some well deserved recognition now as well.

I would recommend reading the info on snopes.com. It was really touching to read about such a courageous woman in such menacing times. She is certainly a woman to look up to.

Arizona

I spent most of my last week off in Arizona. I didn't get to see everyone I wanted to (sorry Jen!). Most of my time was spent with Leslie, Dave, Kai, Droopy and Polar! I kind of helped Leslie pick out some material for a crib quilt she's making for her little bambino. We also drove to Sedona for the day on Sunday. The weather was beautiful & even cool in the shade. Most of the pictures I took were from there. We ran into Preston...random. It was good to see him again. It was weird, I usually don't miss Arizona when I go visit, but this time I really did (except for the traffic of course). The weather was nice & I was busy with friends. I think I really needed this trip. Thanks Les for letting me come and interrupt your break from school.

I've been taking a digital photography class with some girls I work with (nothing too fancy) & so I was trying to fool around with my camera. I am by no means close to hoping to be professional or Monicalike, but I thought I would share some pics from the trip.

This is a prego Leslie

This is a NOT at all prego Shelly :)
