Sometimes you just have to

So, yesterday was my 7th day working (now don't feel sorry for me, it was my choice). Many weeks end with me just being tired of all the whining and complaining. I mean, I just don't want to hear it anymore. I understand these people are hurting, don't feel well and are tired, but come on! They act like I'm there to torture them (how do I know this, they tell me!). I really appreciate the people who try their hardest to get better. There are those who say they're trying, but I am at the point when I can usually tell when someone is just saying it or really doing it.

Back to yesterday...I have a student, in her last clinical before graduating, with me for a few weeks. I put her in charge of treating the patients and I was just going to watch and help her if she needed it. We went into the room of a very demanding patient who also turned out to be quite rude to my student. Before I knew what I was saying, I was sharply telling the patient, "Enough!" I proceeded to tell her that she was being rude and inappropriate. I am not one for confrontation so I was shocked that I had just snapped! I didn't yell at her, but was really quite firm and wouldn't allow her remarks that I was being inappropriate keep me from setting her straight that we were just there to help her. She was pleasant enough after that.

I guess I can also add that I had a patient fall this week as well. When this happens I feel awful and wonder if I am any good at my job. While the fall was not my fault, I still felt horrible. The patient was using a knee platform (that was attached to the walker) to maintain non-weight bearing on one leg. The platform broke when too much weight was put on it causing the patient to fall (with me helping to lower them to the floor so it was a hard fall). Later I found out that this patient had mentioned to Risk Management that they might be retaining a lawyer about this incident. Yikes! Needless to say, I didn't work with this patient again.

Today, everything seems so much better. I got plenty of sleep, I didn't have to go to work and I get to eat at Cafe Rio. What a great start to my week off! Hope everyone else is having a great week too.

Is the week over yet?

So, most of you know that I view my weeks differently than most. My week starts on Wednesday and ends on the next Tuesday. Well, it's only Sunday and this has already been a long week. Thankfully I only have 2 days before my next week off. Today was especially tough with some of my patients & my patience was wearing thin. I can end my days feeling a little sore, depending on how much help my patients need, but today I am definitely feeling it!

I added this cute picture of the cutest kids around that was taken in Newton, UT during our trip for Grandpa Goodsell's funeral. Funny thing...I met some people at the hospital who know some Goodsell's from Newton! How crazy is that. We may be related in some far distant way too! I am amazed when people know where Palmdale, CA, but to know where little ole' Newton is & to probably know my Grandpa...what are the odds? I don't do math, but I'm pretty sure they are small.

Like all the popular kids

So, this is so I can be like all you popular kids. Actually it will just give me something more to do with my not so full life. I'm not sure how exciting it will be to read this, but hey, maybe it will be fun for me. And what's fun for me is fun for you, right? I mean the only reason you would be reading this is because you love me.

Since there isn't much going on right now, this is gonna be short & sweet. I am still in St. George and working at the hospital. I work 7 days, then get 7 days off. This time around I am visiting my friend, Leslie in Arizona. I actually ended up with an extra day and a half off to attend my Grandpa Goodsell's funeral on Tuesday. It was great to see so much of my family. I have, however, gotten sick of driving. That is a huge shock as I am usually up for road trips. I am resting up for my trip home on Monday.
